The Wedding People by Alison Espach

Nope, this was not for me.

This is the Teachers and Friends Book Club selection for November, chosen by Mrs. Tirollo at Mackrille. She warned us it is a love it or hate it book. Ms. Corrado absolutely loved it, as it seems most who listened to the audiobook agree. As for me?

Big fat no.

I could not get past one third in. I HATED every character thus far. I tried multiple times to keep going, but I finally gave up in favor of the new Dan Brown book.

Premise: a recent divorcee decides to splurge on a one in a lifetime vacation to a Newport hotel to then kill herself. Said suicidal woman was cheated on during the pandemic and still works with her ex-husband and his new wife. She arrives at the swanky hotel to find it is almost entirely booked full for a society wedding. The bride finds out someone is staying there not part of the wedding and loses her mind. Then she learns about the planned suicide and tries to bribe her not to.

Both women, Phoebe the suicidal jerk and Lila the conceited bride are so annoying I could not stand them. I wanted to them both to drown in the hotel pool as comedic justice for being so full of themselves. I honestly did not care if Phoebe jumped off her balcony at any moment nor did I care if Lila had her dream wedding.

Barf. Terrible. Sad I spent money on this.
